Physical Description:
The artwork was commissioned by Stadsdeel West, which organized a competition for art for their art route between Amsterdam-Center and Amsterdam Nieuw-West . The Street Art Museum Amsterdam came with artists Uriginal and Irene Lopez Leon from Barcelona who managed to fill the entire wall. They took parts from Picasso's painting and planted portraits of Frederik Hendrik van Oranje , Constantijn Huygens and Christiaan Huygens from left to right . Other things that are depicted are the planet Saturn , but more terrestrial is the swan , a bird that frequently swims around in the nearby Jacob van Lennep Canal.
Iconography:
Huygenika is a contraction of the two subjects in the painting: the scientist Constantijn Huygens and the painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso from 1937. The artwork can be seen from January 2018 on a blank wall of the former Wilhelmina Gasthuis on Tweede Constantijn Huygensstraat.
Uriginal in Het Parool : "I take out the suffering of the victims of the 1937 bombing of Guernica , and show the history of Constantijn Huygens through the portraits. In this way I merge a social theme with the environment". The artist worked on it for about two weeks with the help of students from the Huygens College located opposite the artwork.
