Each year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) organises International Museum Day (IMD) to highlight the critical role museums play in cultural exchange, enrichment, and fostering mutual understanding. On May 18, museums worldwide celebrate IMD through various activities that span a day, weekend, or even a week. The Street Art Museum Amsterdam is proud to participate in this global event, celebrating the 2024 theme: “Museums for Education and Research.”

The Theme: Museums for Education and Research
This year’s theme underscores museums as dynamic educational hubs that foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Museums serve as pivotal platforms for research, exploration, and the dissemination of new ideas. The Street Art Museum embodies this spirit by offering unique educational experiences through its vibrant exhibits and interactive programs.
In 2024, IMD aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations, specifically focusing on:
Goal 4: Quality Education – Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – Building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and fostering innovation.
Street Art Museum Amsterdam’s Activities for IMD 2024
To celebrate IMD, the Street Art Museum Amsterdam has curated a series of events and activities throughout this year designed to engage visitors of all ages and backgrounds:

Collaborative Projects with Schools and Libraries: The museum will partner with local schools and libraries to bring educational programs directly to students and the community. These collaborations will include art projects, storytelling sessions, and exhibitions showcasing students' works inspired by street art.
